John Winter

John is the principle of J N Winter Master Builders. Born and raised in Hawthorn, he’s been based in and around Melbourne for a long time.

John did well at school but chose to follow a trade, as his family had building in its blood. His grandfather was a residential builder and his father an engineer, so he made the most of these good role models and their knowledge.

He leapt into self employment after completing a Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship at RMIT, where he won the RMIT Beasley award three years running and the Master Builders Association apprentice of the year.

He has been busy since; running a thriving business, taking time to travel, raising three kids, and a brief spell as a farmer in his spare time. Alongside this he’s managed to develop his business and grow a specialty in building Veterinary Clinics. With his family now grown up, he’s exploring his personal interest in energy efficient constructions, having just completed his own solar-run sustainable home, which featured in the MRSG Sustainable House Day.

John and his Architect Partner won a prestigious American Veterinary Clinic award for their Eltham Central Veterinary Hospital.
